Frequently Asked Questions

What is a heavy-duty (bariatric) wheelchair?

A heavy-duty wheelchair is built for higher body weights — a reinforced frame, stronger wheels, and a wider seat for comfort. A standard chair used beyond its rated capacity is unsafe, so if the user is close to or above 100 kg, this is the range to look at.

What weight and seat width do they support?

Our heavy-duty models take up to 150 kg, with a seat up to about 55 cm wide — against 44–51 cm on a standard chair. The extra width is about comfort and safe seating, not just capacity.

Will a wider chair still fit through my doorway?

A heavy-duty chair is wider overall — around 72 cm on the widest model. Measure the narrowest doorway in the house before ordering; if it is tight, contact us and we will check the fit for you.

Do they still fold?

Yes — they fold for storage and transport like the rest of the manual range, though they are heavier to lift because of the reinforced frame.

How do I know if I need heavy-duty rather than standard?

Go by the user's weight against the rating, and add a margin — do not buy a 100 kg chair for a 98 kg user. If you are near the limit, or the user needs a wider seat for comfort, choose heavy-duty. Tell us the weight and we will point you to the right model.
