A transit (or attendant) wheelchair is designed to be pushed by someone else. It has compact rear wheels instead of large self-propel wheels, which makes it lighter, narrower, and easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces — but the user cannot push themselves in it.
Who should choose a transit chair over a standard one?
Choose transit when the user will always have someone pushing — for hospital visits, airports, holidays, or short outings. Choose a standard self-propel chair if the user has the arm strength to move independently. If you are unsure, tell us how it will be used and we will help you decide.
Which transit model do you make?
The Winn 201 T — a lightweight foldable transit chair with brakes and compact rear wheels, built for portable, attendant-pushed transport.
Is it safe to push on slopes?
It has brakes the attendant can operate, so the chair can be held securely when stopping, parking, or transferring. As with any wheelchair, take slopes slowly and apply the brakes before the user gets in or out.
How compact is it when folded?
It folds down for a car boot or storage cupboard, and the compact rear wheels make it narrower than a self-propel chair — useful for narrow corridors, lifts, and doorways. Full folded dimensions are on the product page.
Can I add a propelling ring later so the user can self-propel?
No — the transit chair is built around compact rear wheels and cannot be converted. If the user may want to self-propel, choose a standard or lightweight model with a propelling ring from the start.
